Clippy is Back! Microsoft Copilot’s Mico Avatar Explained (2025 Update)

Microsoft Copilot Mico Avatar Explained

Microsoft brings Clippy back as a playful Easter egg in the latest Copilot update.

It is part of a broader “Humanist AI” refresh.

The rollout introduces Mico, short for Microsoft Copilot. It is an animated orb that serves as the voice-mode companion.

It is designed to make interactions feel warmer and more approachable.

If users tap Mico repeatedly, it temporarily morphs into Clippy. In other words, the classic Office paperclip.

This revives a nostalgic but polarising figure with a modern AI touch.

Mico is optional. It means Copilot can be used without engaging the character.

The update also adds Real Talk mode. This meant to challenge assumptions with care, a group chat system for up to 30 participants.

And also Learn Live mode to guide students through concepts in a Socratic tutor style.

Copilot’s Edge browser enhancements are included, and the features are rolling out first in the U.S.

There will be rapid UK and Canada deployment and broader availability in the coming weeks.

The Copilot app remains accessible on iOS and Mac. There is also web access via copilot.microsoft.com in Edge or other browsers.
