How to Make Your Facebook Private

There may be times when you need to make your Facebook private. By private we mean you don’t anyone, including your friends, to see what you post and other details.

It could be that, you no longer want to share any information with your friends or the public.

It could be that you want to take a temporary break by making your Facebook profile private.

Maybe you want the posts to be viewable only by you just as a source of reference for the future.

I’m using Facebook to bookmark important web pages by making all the posts private to myself.

So, how do you make your Facebook private?

On your Facebook page, click on the drop-down arrow on the far right-hand corner.

Click on See more privacy settings

You want to focus on Your activity section.

Most importantly, you want to set who can see your future posts. You can set it to Only me if you don’t want the public and friends to see your posts.

You may also want to limit the audience for your past posts.

You’ll be prompted with a warning if you select this option. If it’s okay with you, you may proceed.

You can further make your friend’s list private by checking the option below. Similarly, your phone number and email can be made private to you if you don’t want anybody contacting you through Facebook.

You may want to go through the other options and select whatever privacy option(s) you prefer to further make your Facebook private.

How to Make You Facebook Account Private Through Your Cellphone

You can make your Facebook private through your smartphone -either your Android phone or iPhone.

The first thing you would want to do is launch your Facebook App.

Once launched, tap on the three horizontal lines.

Next, scroll down to Settings and Privacy.

Next, choose Settings.

Then scroll down until you see the Audience and visibility section. Then click on Posts.

Under Posts, you have 3 options. The most important being Who can see your future posts.

When you tap on that, you’ll be given the option to set the privacy level for your future posts. Tap on Try it now.

Next click on the dropdown arrow to change the visibility.

On the next screen, you can choose your post privacy. Select Only me, if you want nobody to see your future posts.

You can also limit who can see past posts and Who can see your stories.

Under who can see your story. You can choose to hide your story by ticking the list of persons.

You can enter your preferred privacy settings in the list below.

Finally, you may want to take a look at the Profile and tagging section. Choose your preferences there.

If you don’t want to be found on search engines, you can untick the following option. Consider this carefully as a long-lost friend or family member may look for you through the Internet.
